Shell exercises options on Awilco Drilling decommissioning contract

Norway’s Awilco Drilling has confirmed that Shell UK has decided to exercise two options for 1983-built semi-submersible rig WilPhoenix, covering the abandonment of five further wells.

The contract is extended to 24 firm wells with the programme running through to late in the first quarter of 2020. Shell still has options available for two further abandonment wells and three exploration wells.

The original 18-well contract was announced in May 2018, and valued at around $38.3m.
