Shell in talks to acquire BG Group

London: Answering recent market speculation, BG Group has issued a statement today confirming that the companies are in talks regarding a possible offer by Shell for BG.

The statement from BG Group did stress “there can be no certainty that any offer will ultimately be made for BG” but did say a further announcement will be made shortly.

According to London Stock exchange rules, Shell has until 5th May to declare a firm intention to make an offer for BG.

BG Group is focused on LNG exploration, distribution and supply and has more than 5,000 employees. It was created in 1997 when British Gas divested Centrica and became BG plc, and later reorganised in 2000 as BG Group.
