Shell orders three FLNG units from Samsung in $4.7bn deal

Athens: Shell Gas & Power Developments has ordered three floating LNG units (FLNG) from South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries in a deal worth a combined KRW 5.2tr ($4.7bn) for the hull constructions alone.

A contract for the topsides and equipment for the vessels will be signed in the second half of 2016, according to the basic front-end engineering design (FEED).

The vessels are scheduled for delivery by November 2023, a filing to the Seoul stock exchange said today.

The order is equal to 40.9% of Samsung’s combined sales for 2014. Yesterday, the yard signed a $1bn deal to construct offshore oil platforms for deployment in the Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea.
