Shenzhen surpasses Hong Kong in container volumes

Guangzhou: Shenzhen port has surpassed Hong Kong port in container volume in the first half of this year. Shenzhen port handled 11.06m teu, with year-on-year growth of 2.52% while Hong Kong port handled 10.71m teu in the same period.

Dong Zeyan, an official at Shenzhen Port Authority said international transit container volume at the port has increased by 20% year-on-year to 1.42m teu in the first half. The authority predicts that in the second half of this year the port will achieve 3%-4% growth.

In a recent port report released by Chinese Academy of Sciences, the academy predicts Shenzhen port will achieve container throughput of 23.3m-23.5m, and become the third largest container port in the world, following Shanghai and Singapore. [22/07/13]
