Shipowner and captains to go to trial for illegal diesel dealing

Kuala Lumpur: The owner of a Penang-based shipping company and two vessel captains from Indonesia claimed trial at the Sessions Court to separate charges of unlawful possession of subsidized diesel and illegal dealing of the item near the waters of Pulau Bidan in August.

Abu Bakar Ramli, the owner of Prai Petroleum Enterprise and Wibowo, the Indonesian captain of MT Victory Star 1, have been charged with unlawful possession of 50,000 litres of subsidised diesel on the vessel. They also claimed trial to a charge of dealing the diesel to another vessel, MT Moresby 9, without a license.

Paulus Matualaga, the Indonesian captain of the Singapore-registered MT Moresby 9 vessel, claimed trial to a charge of conspiring with the two accused in dealing diesel. [05/12/14]
