Pirates have hit at least 10 times in waters around Singapore and the Malaysian peninsula in 2012, leading the International Maritime Bureau to alert all ships sailing in these waters.
“Although the situation is not alarming, vessel and ship captains should be vigilant and adhere to the United Nations' Anti-Piracy Watch guidelines,” said the bureau's piracy reporting centre Asian region head Noel Choong.
In the year to date IMB has heard of six incidents in the Singapore Strait, two in the Straits of Malacca and another two near Tanjung Piai. [02/10/12]
