Shorter shelf lives

Ships might have a design life of 25 years today, but what is their realistic economic life?

The publication at the start of the month of the always excellent annual shipping and shipbuilding review by Paris-based brokerage BRS Group sparked considerable debate among Splash readers.

Tim Jones, chairman of BRS Group, writing the foreword to the 122-page report, suggested the lifecycle of ships is set to get a whole lot shorter.
