Sichuan energy firm to spend RMB1bn on Titanic replica

Shanghai: Seven Star Energy Investment, a private energy firm based in Sichuan, is planning to build a life-size replica of the legendary ocean liner Titanic, which will be permanently docked on the local Qi River and become a theme park to attract tourism.

The firm will spend RMB1bn on the project, and has hired a US firm to design the ship. Bernard Hill, who played the captain in the Titanic movie, has been hired as a consultant of the project. CSSC-affliated Wuchang Shipbuilding has been chosen to build the ship and the project is scheduled to be completed in 2 years.

Su Shaojun, the president of Seven Star Energy Investment, said that the aim of building the ship is to let people have the chance to experience life on Titanic, he added that with the help of technology, people will also be able to experience the ship hitting an iceberg and sinking into the ocean.
