Simatech officers charged over deadly collision

Hanoi: The captain and two officers of the Sima Sapphire controlled by Singapore’s Simatech Shipping have been blamed for the collision with a Vietnamese fishing vessel, which killed eight people.

The Vung Tau Maritime Port Administration had gone through the feedership’s voyage data recorder and argue that two officers failed to issue a warning to the fishing boat when it came close to the containership.

Vietnamese authorities are demanding Simatech pay a deposit before the ship can carry on trading to its next port of call in Malaysia. [01/10/13]
