Singapore launches port research centre

Singapore: A $54m research centre has been launched in Singapore aimed at tackling urban crowds and port management.
The Urban Computing and Engineering Centre of Excellence is joint setup by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star), Singapore Management University and Fujitsu.

The centre will study port operation optimization and the design of integrated logistics concepts managing inbound and outbound shipments from port to city, aiming to improve capacity without building new facilities.

It will also examine how Singapore port can operate more efficiently by predicting the volume of shipments due for arrival and reduce waiting time for ships. [16/10/14]
