Sir Ian Denholm passes away

The Denholm family, one of the most famous names in Scottish shipping, is mourning the loss of Sir Ian Denholm, who passed away yesterday afternoon.

Denholm, who turned 91 last week, passed away peacefully in hospital while surrounded by family.

Father of Denholm Group chairman John Denholm, Sir Ian was previously both chairman and chief executive of J&J Denholm and with his brother Bob Denholm helped set up the company’s ship management business in what was an industry first. He was also BIMCO president from 1991 to 1993.

Denholm Group’s origins date back to 1866, making it one of the oldest shipping companies in the United Kingdom.
