SITC acquires two boxships

Chinese containership operator SITC has acquired two 2,474 teu containerships – Kanaga Island and Elba Island – from US owner Soundview Maritime at $12.8m en bloc, according to Braemar ACM Shipbroking.

SITC has been active on the secondhand market lately. It acquired the 2,496 teu Ulysses in February and two 2,524 teu containerships – Wehr Trave and Wehr Warnow in January.

With the latest acquisitions, the SITC fleet is approaching the 100,000 teu mark.
