SITC fleet approaches 100,000 teu mark with latest acquisition

Chinese containership operator SITC is listed by a few broker sources as the buyer of the German controlled 2,496 teu Ulysses. SITC is said to have paid $6.2m for the vessel.

According to Aphaliner, SITC’s total box capacity currently stands at 96,176teu. The deal, if confirmed, leaves SITC one ship short of passing through the 100,000 slot barrier for the first time. It also propels the Shanghai line into the top 20 league of liners.

When contacted by Splash, an official at SITC declined to confirm the acquisition.

In January, SITC acquired two secondhand 2,524 teu containershipsWehr Trave and Wehr Warnow – from Hamburg-based SBT Shipping to further expand its fleet.
