Socomar adds its seventh tanker with Unicorn Shipping buy

Low profile Sorrento-based shipping firm Socomar has just purchased its seventh tanker according to market sources in Italy.

The medium range tanker specialist has bought the 2010-built Lavela from Unicorn Shipping for a price of $14.8m. The price is lower than MSI’s valuation of $16.2m, which may be linked to the special survey scheduled for 2020.

Socomar currently operates a fleet of six MR tankers with an average age of 8 years, all ranging from 40,000 to 50,000 dwt.

Unicorn Shipping, part of the Grindrod Shipping group, is involved in the medium range and intermediate tanker markets, shipping clean petroleum products.
