Sohar box backlog grows to the frustration of shippers

Muscat: The shift in port operations from Muscat to Sohar is not going as smoothly as planned. All cargo operations must move out of the Omani capital to new facilities in Sohar by the end of this month. However, shippers are demanding cargo clearance take place faster at the new Oman International Container Terminal (OICT) where containers are backing up as the government struggles to put enough Customs resources in place. Some shippers have resorted to switching ports, choosing Jebel Ali instead.

OICT ceo Capt Rashid Jamil Syed has promised that all shipper issues will be resolved in the next two to three months.  [10/08/14]
