Songjiang bridge in danger of collapse after ship strike

Shanghai: Shanghai Songjiang Xietang Bridge was found to be in danger of collapse yesterday after being hit by a cargo ship, and has now been shut down.

According to authorities, cracks have been found on two of the supports on the bridge's west side. A preliminary investigation has determined that a cargo ship crashed into the bridge's supports late Sunday, however, the police still haven’t tracked down the ship.

Currently local police, maritime authorities and the road administration are investigating the case. [11/03/14]
