Sorong port construction delayed

Jakarta: State-owned port operator PT Pelindo II has warned that construction of the long-awaited Sorong seaport in West Papua will be further delayed as a result of land acquisition problems.

The company has acquired less than 40% of the 7,500 ha of land needed for the port construction meaning that the planned start of construction due this year cannot happen. 

The port has an intitial planned capacity of 500,000 teu a year.  [26/06/14]
