Sorong port construction delayed

Jakarta: State-run port giant PT Pelindo II has said the construction of Sorong Port in West Papua will be delayed until 2013 from its original plan for the fourth quarter of this year thanks to issues with getting land from indigenous people.

The port will have a 500,000 teu capacity in its first phase and will cost around $100m to build.

Separately Pelindo II reckons the nation’s top port, Tanjung Priok, will hit 6.5m teu in throughput this year, up from 5.8m teu last year.  [05/10/12]
