SSY acquires Danish broker

British shipbroker Simpson Spence Young (SSY) has bought out Denmark’s Bidsted & Co in the latest phase of consolidation seen across the shipbroking sector. No price was given for the acquisition.

Founded in Copenhagen in 1940, Bidsted focuses on dry bulk chartering and S&P with Danish and Asian clients.

Stanko Jekov, head of dry cargo at SSY, said: “We are very much looking forward to working with the team at Bidsted and this acquisition is a great opportunity for us to continue to grow our dry cargo department with local expertise in Copenhagen, one of the major shipping hubs of Europe.”
