Star Bulk spending $215m on Chinese bulker newbuilds

 

Shanghai: Star Bulk Carriers Corp has revealed a flurry of orders in China worth a combined $214.9m.
 
The Greek firm has tapped Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding to build two 208,000 dwt newcastlemax dry bulk vessels for delivery during the first half of 2016. On top of that, Star Bulk has inked deals with Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co for two 61,000 dwt ultramaxes and a 209,000 dwt newcastlemax for delivery in late 2015 and early 2016.
 
Currently, 2006-founded Star Bulk has an operating fleet of 13 dry bulk carriers. Its orderbook also includes a pair of capesizes and two more ultramaxes.  [02/10/13]
