Statu Shipping buys first supramax

The Turkish bulk player, Statu Shipping, is taking advantage of low prices in the secondhand market. It has just sealed a deal to buy a 14-year-old 52,827 dwt supramax Latmar, according to broking sources. It paid $4.2m to Latmar Shipping and Trading for the ship – marking the first time the Turkish player has had a ship on its books above 50,000 dwt.

The auctioned ship was a bargain, given that it appears on VesselsValue.com priced at $7m.

The seller has only this ship in its fleet list and has now left shipowning.

Statu tends to operate MPPs of around 10,000 dwt trading in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. The company declined to comment on its latest acquisition when contacted by Splash.
