Steel cutting for China Shipping’s giant 19,000 teu ships

Ulsan: Steel cutting took place today for what will become the world’s largest containerships. The quintet of vessels ordered last May by China Shipping at Hyundai Heavy Industries were originally pencilled in as 18,400 teu in terms of capacity. Hyundai Heavy has since revealed that the owner upgraded the ship design to 19,000 teu. The first 19,000 teu ship will deliver this November. Hyundai Heavy claims the 19,000 teu class ships save 20% more fuel than a 10,000 teu class ship.  [20/01/14]
