Stena contemplating LNG orders

Singapore: One of the newer entrants to the LNG sector is planning to grow the fleet to continue its early success in the field.

Stena LNG, which was spun out from Stena Bulk in March and is headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, has been in touch with Korean yards Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Samsung Heavy Industries, according to Erik Lewenhaupt, general manager of Stena Bulk Singapore.

Stena Bulk bought three LNG carriers from Nobu Su’s TMT last year for $700m, marking the Swedish firm’s entry into the LNG sector. "Through Stena LNG, Stena is building a long term commitment to this challenging industry. It’s an industry that suits Stena Group well” Lewenhaupt told SeaShip News.

Earlier this year Stena Bulk decided to nix a pair of letter of intents with DSME for two 170,000 cu m ships, and is in talks with the yards for potential later delivery.
