Stricken Bangladeshi vessel drifts out of control

Hanoi: Local authorities dispatched a team yesterday to try and rein in the catastrophe happening around the stricken Bangladeshi vessel Bright Royal.

The ship hit a reef on Friday and has been leaking oil ever since, and has drifted more than 100 nautical miles amid rough weather.

A team of technicians, however, was unable to halt the oil flow and get the ship under control.

The Bright Royal continues to drift, some five miles from the coastline off Binh Dinh province. There are fears that the ship has now taken on too much water and will sink.  [09/10/13]
