Suez Canal security raised to ‘extreme emergency’ level

Cairo: With extreme violence breaking out across the nation ship calls to Egyptian ports have been reported as normal. Meanwhile, Mohab Mamish, the head of the Suez Canal Authority, announced on Wednesday he was raising the state of extreme emergency at the entrances to the canal starting from Suez governorate through the course of Ismailia to Port Said.

Mamish announced that Suez Canal is now being policed by the army, airforce, navy as well as the authority’s own fleet of ships.

Mamish granted all workers in at the authority a day off today in case of any violence.  [15/08/13]
