Suez Canal sees revenues rising to $6bn

Cairo: The Suez Canal Authority is predicting revenues will increase by the end of this year to about $6bn on the back of higher rates and more boxships opting for the Suez over the Panama Canal from Asia to the US East Coast.

The number of boxships transiting the Suez Canal is expected to increase 8% in the coming financial year which starts in July. Rates were increased in March, a move that did bring some liners to warn of possible reroutings.  [22/05/13]
