Swedish shipowner in all-Asian project

Dalian: Stena RoRo has chartered out one of its vessels to Yantai Bohai Gulf Ferries to service China – Korea. The vessel was recently bought from a Vietnamese counterpart and upgraded at a yard in China. It is the first result from the company’s recently opened Shanghai office.

Stena RoRo bought the Hoa Sen from Vinashin late last year and renamed it Stena Egeria. Since then she has been converted and upgraded at Chengxi Shipyard.

“This is the first charter of a RoPax vessel by Stena RoRo to a Chinese/Korean operator and aligns perfectly with our corporate objective to strengthen our position in this part of the world”, said Per Westling, ceo of Stena RoRo. “We believe the market in this region is still not mature for a full scale ferry operation like in Europe but I am convinced there will be a continuous need for quality ferry and ropax ships and operators in the future and we are hoping to be a key player in that scenario.”

The ship will operate three roundtrips from Yantai to Pyeongtaek per week starting in of July.  [19/05/14]
