Dubai: Two Syrian sailors drowned and eight are missing after the collision of a Cook Islands-registered freighter with a containership about 120 km southwest of the Peloponnese, reported the Greek Ministry of Merchant Marine.

Onboard the Piri Reis freighter that sank, there were 17 Syrian sailors, seven of them were rescued. The ship carried a cargo of fertilizers.

No one was injured on the boxship, Consouth.  The search for the missing seafarers continues with the Greek coastguard deploying five ships and a helicopter.  [29/04/13]
