Taiwan to increase monitoring of all mainland vessels entering its waters

Taipei: Taiwan is taking action to better keep tabs of all mainland ships heading towards the island as direct shipping links grow. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) has amended regulations whereby any mainland ship that enters Taiwanese waters has to turn on its marine communication radio channel and automatic identification system. Mainland vessels – both cargo and passenger- have to follow strict navigational routes to whichever Taiwanese port they are headed. [20/05/14]
