Taiwan’s top two lines set for huge expansion

Shenzhen: Taiwan’s top two liners are set for significant expansion, according to statistics from Alphaliner. Hua Joo Tan, executive consultant at Alphaliner, speaking at TPM Asia in Shenzhen, said no other liner would receive more ships in the coming 15 months than Evergreen. A total of 22 ships totaling 235,000 new slots are set to join the Evergreen fleet by the end of 2014. Evergreen is widely tipped to strengthen ties with the CKYH alliance, Tan noted.

Meanwhile, another Taiwanese liner, Yang Ming, has the third highest orderbook of all liners, Tan said, with some 145,000 slots on order.

Tan said the four carriers to watch in 2014, based on those with the most amount of ships delivering next year, were Evergreen, Maersk, China Shipping Container Lines and Hamburg Sud.  [16/10/13]
