Taiwanese cargo ship and unidentified Chinese naval ship collide

A Taiwanese cargo ship has allegedly collided with a Chinese navy ship off Kinmen on Wednesday, causing minor damage to both ships.

According to Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration, a Chinese warship slammed into Kaohsiung-registered cargo ship Yu Tai No. 1 near Liaoluo Port in Kinmen. The ship suffered minor damage but no crew members were injured and it was escorted back to Liaoluo Port safely.

The Coast Guard claimed that it made contact with the Chinese navy ship, which sailed away after the collision, however the vessel refused to identify itself, while the captain said the vessel was damaged as well and needed to return to Xiamen Port for repairs.

Taiwan’s Coast Guard is investigating the incident.
