Tender out for new Jakarta terminal

Jakarta: State controlled port operator Pelindo II has put out a tender for the operation of the second and third terminals at North Jakarta’s Kalibaru Port, a giant construction designed to ease the pressure of the capital’s existing top port, Tanjung Priok.

Most of the world’s top international port operators are among the 18 parties that Pelindo II claims have shown an interest in running the facilities. The tender documents must be handed in by April 3, with a deal likely signed in August.

The two new terminals have a combined 3m teu capacity and should be up and running by 2016.

Japan’s Mitsui & Cowon the tender to run Kalibaru’s first container terminal, which has a capacity of 1.5m teu.  [22/03/13]
