Thai govt sends team to try and kickstart Dawei project

Bangkok: Urgently trying to get Southeast Asia’s most talked about port project back on track, the Thai government has formed a special task force led by energy minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal to try and smooth relations with Myanmar counterparts over the stalled Dawei port.

Deputy prime minister Niwatthamrong Bunsongphaisan said Pongsak will head to Myanmar today to go through issues that Myanmar has with the project. Sources told the Bangkok Post that different ideas between Italian-Thai Development Co's Dawei Development Co (DDC) and the Myanmar government had caused the project to stall.  [07/11/13]
