Bangkok: Thailand’s LNG imports are set to soar according to statistics from PTT, the national energyconglomerate. PTT anticpates imports of the cooled gas to treble in coming years.
LNG imports will hit 2.4m tonnes next year and 3.5m tonnes in 2014, up from an estimated 1m tonnes this year, PTT reckons.
PTT launched the 5m tonne first phase of its $900mLNG receiving terminal at Map Ta Phut in Rayong province last year.
The second phase, due for completion in 2017, will see capacity double to 10m tonnes.
A separate 5m tonne capacity second terminal is also on the drawing board. [19/11/12]
