Thai PM reaffirms committment to Dawei port project

Bangkok: Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and Myanmar president Thein Sein will announce a joint partnership to support the Dawei deepsea port project at the Asean Summit in mid-November, putting to rest continued reports of delays to the megaport complex.

Located in southern Myanmar, the port will form part of a new special economic zone with sea, land and rail links to Thailand. Construction firm Italian-Thai Development is the lead investor in the project, while Japan has also agreed to invest in the project.  [11/10/12]
