Thick haze prompts MPA warning
Singapore: The thick haze spreading across Southeast Asia has prompted Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) to issue a circular advising owners to be careful when transiting through the area.
“Due to the presence of haze, the visibility in the Singapore Strait and port waters could be significantly reduced,” it said.
“During periods of restricted visibility, shipmasters are advised to keep a proper lookout and navigate with caution.”
The haze, brought about by Indonesian farmers clearing their land, has also brought reduced visibility at nearby Port Klang and in western Indonesia. [12/03/14]
