Thorco and United Heavy Lift launch new joint venture

Thorco and United Heavy Lift are to combine their fleets to form Thorco Projects, a new company that aims to become a major player within the project and heavy lift market.

“The way we complement each other in respect of clients and markets couldn’t be any better. Thorco has many years of expertise and a large and diverse fleet,” said Lars Rolner, founder and owner of Hamburg-headquartered United Heavy Lift.

“Together our combined fleet and experience enable us to provide a full range of services, offering everything from general and project cargo to heavy lift, with vessels geared up to 800 tonnes and deck carriers, which can load units up to 8,000 tonnes,” he says.

“Also geographically we have different strong points which can benefit us mutually,” said Thomas Mikkelsen, CEO and partner in Thorco, adding that the new company will be able to “simply cover the entire project market”.

Christian Stadil, who co-owns Thorco’s parent Thornico with his brother Thor, said fact the partner companies are privately owned meant the turnaround from the idea to its execution was “prompt and very good”.

No further details were disclosed about how the business combination will be effected.
