Thoresen offloads 15-year-old open hatch bulk carrier

Thoresen Thai Agencies has announced the sale of 2002-built open hatch bulk carrier Thor Horizon for around $5.4m.

MarineTraffic data shows the vessel has been sent to Gadani for scrapping, the sale leaving Thoresen with 21 vessels at an average age of 12 years.

The 47,111 dwt Thor Horizon was acquired by Thoresen for $37m in February 2007.

Thoresen said the sale is “in line with prevailing dry bulk shipping conditions in which older vessels become less competitive and less able to meet operating costs.”

Thoresen is going through a fleet renewal programme and through 2017 has been active in the supramax segment.
