Dalian: Tianjin, the port nearest the capital Beijing, is set for giant further expansion. The green light has been given to add a total of 71 berths at the northern port, which will bring its total number of berths to 146.
The transformation of Tianjin, led by its Binhai area, was one of the pet projects of the previous Chinese leadership of Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao.
Tianjin’s throughput surpassed 500m tonnes last year, making it the the thirs largest in China after Shanghai and Ningbo-Zhoushan. [06/10/14]
