Togo added to China Merchants’ sprawling port empire

Hong Kong: The growing global nature of China Merchants Holdings (International) Co’s portfolio of ports has been bolstered with the acquisition of a 50% stake in Thesar Maritime, which owns a 35-year concession to operate and develop a container terminal in Lome, Togo. CMHI paid 150m euros for the stake. First phase of the terminal is due to open December 2013 with MSC as the major customer. Ultimately the terminal will have space for 2.2m teu annually.  [30/08/12]
