Total ups its Gulf of Mexico presence with acquisition of Samson Offshore Anchor

French oil supermajor Total has agreed to purchase US-based Samson Offshore Anchor.

The deal gives Total a stronger deep-water presence in the Gulf of Mexico as Samson Offshore Anchor has a 12.5% stake in four blocks of the Anchor discovery.

Anchor, discovered in 2014, is a significant find located roughly 140 miles off the Louisiana coast in more than 4,900 feet of water.

The other stakeholders in Anchor are Chevron, Cobalt and Venari with respective interests of 55%, 20% and 12.5%.

By acquiring Samson Offshore Anchor, Total also gets its 12.5% interest in the nearby exploration block Green Canyon 761, where Total already has a 25% interest.
