Trelleborg Marine Systems eyes SE Asia growth

Singapore: Trelleborg Marine Systems, one of the world’s top manufacturers of marine fenders, is seeing significant growth out of Southeast Asia.

Richard Hepworth, business unit president at Trelleborg Marine Systems, explained to SeaShip News the national ingredients deemed necessary for port development to take off.

“The growth of our business,” Hepworth said, “is dictated by a number of factors linked to fast growing economies, where GDP growth requires increasing import and export of goods, which in turn triggers investments into port infrastructure and all the equipment required for safe and efficient operation of the port.”

In Southeast Asia, Hepworth specifically highlighted Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam as “exciting places” at present.

In a far more in depth interview the Trelleborg boss spoke to our new sister site, Maritime CEO, on the huge number of rival firms entering the fender market and severely undercutting the competition with poorly made products that are unlikely to last long in the water.
