TS Taipei cleanup to continue for another month

The oil spill cleanup work of the grounded containership TS Taipei is still ongoing and likely to take another month to complete.

According to local environment protection department, the oil spill from the ship has been mostly contained, however, there is still a small amount of oil leaking out from the ship.

The oil spill has polluted 20.3 kilometers of shoreline. The department estimated that the whole cleanup project will be completed by May 15 and the ship dismantling work is scheduled in August or September.

It is also estimated that the pollution will cause about NTD90m ($2.77m) of losses for local fishermen.
