Turkey’s GSD makes first tanker foray

Turkish owner GSD Holdings has made its first foray into the tanker sector. Broking sources tell Splash the Istanbul- headquartered conglomerate has placed an order for a 50,000 dwt MR tanker at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea. Splash understands GSD is paying $35.5m for the ship which comes with a swift delivery date next year as Hyundai Mipo has yet to fill out its slots for 2019.

GSD’s current fleet has five dry bulk vessels in the water with a sixth due for delivery from Japan’s Imabari Shipyard next month.

GSD is a diverse conglomerate. Other interests include an investment bank and a factoring firm.
