Bourbon Offshore crew pair abducted off Nigeria

French offshore vessel operator Bourbon has issued a statement, confirming that anchor handling and tug supply vessel Bourbon Liberty 251 was attacked off Nigeria on Tuesday, and two crew members were abducted.

One of the abducted crew members is Nigerian, while the other a Russian national. The other ten crew members are safe, and on board the vessel which is now at Onne Port.

Bourbon says an emergency cell has been set up, and that it is in contact with the crew members’ family to support them while the situation unfolds.

Maritime security firm Protection Group International recently suggested a government crackdown on oil theft is fuelling the notable increase in kidnapping and sabotage attacks in the Niger Delta as regional militant gangs move away from oil theft as their preferred source of revenue.
