Two containerships ablaze after collision at Westports Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur: Reports are emerging that two fires broke out this evening due to a collision between two container vessels at Malaysia’s Westports terminal at Port Klang.

Port Klang Fire and Rescue Services Department received an emergency call around 8.00pm after UASC 13,000-teu containership Al Riffa and Ship Finance Management's San Felipe caught fire after colliding.

Al Riffa had to be towed away to prevent fire damage to wharf 20, where the incident occurred, while San Felipe was left on the wharf and the fire extinguished.

Investigations into the incident have started already. [28/10/14]
