Two taken hostage from boxship off Nigeria

The 4,300 teu CMA CGM Turquoise was attacked by armed pirates off Nigeria on Monday evening. All of the crew bar two managed to get into the citadel of the ship, which is owned by Greece’s Dioryx Maritime and is on charter to CMA CGM. After 12 hours in the citadel the crew reemerged to find their two colleagues had been taken hostage. The ship was en route from Nigeria to Cameroon when the attack happened.

The Gulf of Guinea has become the world’s hotspot for piracy in the past 12 months.

A product tanker, Puli, was also attacked in the same region on Monday.
