Two workers killed at Bangladesh shipbreaking yard

Two workers died from inhaling toxic gas at a shipbreaking yard in Bangladesh on Saturday.

According to local reports, the incident happened at OWW shipbreaking yard in Chittagong when two workers fell sick after inhaling toxic gas and later died after being sent to hospital for treatment.

Lack of safety management has been a major issue at shipbreaking yards in Bangladesh, with casualties occurring on a regular basis.

In July, three workers at the shipbreaking yard of Mak Corporation in Chittagong died from inhaling toxic gas.

In February, a fire broke out onboard an oil tanker beached at the Shagorika Ship Breaking Yard, killing two workers.
