UASC set for mammoth containership orders

Dubai: With news that close ally China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) has gone ahead with an order for five 18,000 teu ships at Korean yard Hyundai Heavy Industries, speculation is turning to United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) following suit.

UASC is understood to be discussing a big boxship order with yards in China, Korea and Japan. On its shopping list are a possible five 18,000 teu ships and five 14,000 teu vessels. UASC is likely to make the order in the coming month.

“UASC is preparing for significant changes on the back of new capacity coming into service with a major program of new vessel acquisition”, Jorn Hinge, UASC president and ceo, said in the middle of last month.  [05/05/13]
