Union Maritime continues LR1 foray

British owner Union Maritime continues to snap up chemical tanker tonnage. Brokers report the company has paid Sweden’s Marinvest $26m for the 2006-built Maritina LR1 tanker.

Union Maritime bought the 2000-built Eagle Ray LR1 tanker recently. In May last year it snapped up the the 2004-built LR1 tanker, Abram Schulte for just under $22m.

Union Maritime is a UK owner, founded 10 years ago. It operates a fleet of chemical tankers focusing on clean petroleum products in West Africa as well as internationally.

Starting out with the Informa Group in 2000 in Hong Kong, Sam Chambers became editor of Maritime Asia magazine as well as East Asia Editor for the world’s oldest newspaper, Lloyd’s List. In 2005 he pursued a freelance career and wrote for a variety of titles including taking on the role of Asia Editor at Seatrade magazine and China correspondent for Supply Chain Asia.
